Summary: The influence of selected physicochemical factors occurring in steel arc furnaces on the characteristics of electric discharges has been presented. Static and dynamic properties of high current arcs have been described. The usefulness of selected mathematical arcs models, which are used to simulate processes in arc furnace power systems, has been evaluated. The issues of determining the characteristics of electric arc in the conditions of industrial operation of arc furnaces have been considered.
