ELECTROSTATIC

Selected electrostatic hazards caused by brush discharges

Summary: The factor causing approx. 8.5-10% of explosions and fires caused by the ignition of explosive atmospheres is electrostatic discharge (ESD). One of the most common types of discharges are brush discharges between conducting object (especially if grounded) and a charged dielectric (solid or liquid). Therefore, it is necessary to develop reliable and reproducible methods for assessing the explosion hazard from electrostatic discharges and increasing the awareness of electrostatic hazards in employees working in industrial plants with explosive atmospheres.
