Summary: The article describes the history, reasons for the creation and the fate of the the Experimental Mine “Barbara”, Uppersilesian Central Mining Rescue Station and Magnetic Observatory in Mikołów. It also presents the main goals and tasks of the mine, which were: scientific and research studies exploring the dangers of coal dust or gas explosions and fire protection, as well as research on magnetic changes used for orientation during mining excavations carried out at the Magnetic Observatory.
