Abilities to increase thermal capacity of existed 110 and 220 kV overhead power lines

Summary: The paper includes analysis which refer to possibilities on increasing thermal capacity of existing Polish overhead power lines. The main purpose of the paper  was elaboration and verification a new theoretical model of capacity, which needs actual ambient temperature and the wind speed. Mathematical model of capacity which is proposed, has been elaborated for different levels of risk of exceeding permissible conductor temperature in daytime and nighttime and for a different interval of ambient temperature. The application of this model allows in a significantly way to the increase of thermal capacity of existing high voltage power lines, especially during summer – when there are limits connected to low capacity. The new model of capacity was completely tested in few 110 kV power lines in summer and winter time.
